Ive reinstalled windows already.. same thing

played without sound, with onboard realtek sound, with soundblaster x-fi.. same thing.

Im getinng a couple replacement sticks of ram in a couple days to see if that's what it is...

Ive never replaced a power supply before, but that sounds like a possibility. I know the nvidia software gives me an alert when the card isnt getting enough power- wouldnt that be triggered? or is that only the product of a prolonged power deficit?

Hachi:

I think it may be a prolonged power event that triggers the alerts. Replacing the power supply is a snap - it'll take you 10 minutes tops.

Yeah power supply is definitely a possibility. It could even be a PS that offers just barely enough power on the 12V rails and eventually starts giving out under load. You will want to try a PS that gives more power than the current one.

I had this issue ages ago when a hard drive kept powering down. It sounded just like the HD was about to die, turned out to be the PS unable to supply enough power only when playing games and all 4 hard drives were powered up.

I'd add that you may want to go bigger than 600w (sustained) on the new power supply. I'm not sure of your budget, but I've had good experiences with either of these units:

The 750W has a $40 mfg rebate (until 1/31), making it just over $100 - almost a steal.

I actually picked up that 750W for 65 bucks after a $50 rebate during a christmas sale :)

Most cards, and motherboards (most hardware really) will come with a recommended power supply wattage. Also, most mid to high end video cards require they're own branch. My video cards (GeForce 7800GT's) came with a yellow sticky on the instruction booklet warning me me to give each card their own rail. It was a pretty hefty requirement but definitely worth it for SLI technology :)

Just wanted to let you "Apple" turds know the truth....

Mac's suck, if you think they don't have problems and blue screens etc, you are mistaken

go check out Tomshardware for info on their new "Leopard OS" and how bugged it is

also all the Apple displays have flaws, and guess what ? Apple denies it and apparently there is a class action lawsuit in the works.

http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/11/27/ ... _reported/

and dont get me started about that "feature" where if you are copying from source to destination, it will erase the source files without making sure they are on the destination.... lol

i could go on
