What if it's a stolen vehicle and the note is just there to delay discovery? Calling the police makes sense to me.

haha thanks for all the comments. Unfortunately on my way to work yesterday the truck had been pushed out onto the public road (we can't have it towed from public property) and when I got home after work at 6pm it was gone.

We still have his cell number that he so kindly left behind though and we wrote down his plate #.
