Messing with mail or a mailbox is a federal offense. Don't know about the felony part.

The U.S Postal Service never ever pushes to enforce that. Thats something for myth busters. If any charge is filed its Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree. In CT thats a low grade misdemeanor.

Plus it was an April Fool's joke anyway. The guy said he filmed himself doing that to his own mailbox and had someone hand the tape to the boss pretending that an angry customer made it.
