Tholia's Christmas PC

Post by Tholia »

mostly for wow and a little headroom, plus a bit more CPU and memory for work...

i7-950 - $295
Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R - $200
Corsair XMS3 12GB (6x2gb DDR3 1600) - $180
Gigabyte GV-N460OC-1GI (just one - might SLI a second one later but not now) - $180
Crucial RealSSD C300 (128GB SATAIII) - $275 (have a home server, so I don't need more storage than this)
Cooler Master Silent Pro M600 - $100
Antec 300 - $60

$1300 at newegg. comments?

I built a very similar one for a customer recently. Great system, it'll last a good 4 years before it starts chugging on stuff.

I built it for almost that exact price too.

looks sick Tholia I'm jealous! I was just wondering if 12 gigs of memory is waste or not, are there applications that can ever use most of that? are there a lot of instances that you would notice 6vs12?

Maybe not gaming-wise now, but give it a couple of years...

I could use every bit of that RAM for the Virtual Machines I run, but that is all for work...

I have 6gb right now, thinking it would be enough. Unfortunately when a WoW expansion comes out, they double the RAM requirements while the graphics quality goes up minimally. Running 3 copies of WoW in Stormwind now runs me out of memory after a while. I should have gone with 8gb but oh well.
